June 27-28, and July 1st, 2021
Our big trip of the summer had us camping in a few locations on the way to Idaho and back, with most of the time spent with friends on a lake there. We were on the western slope of Colorado for a while, and we had a great time celebrating Heather's birthday on a float down the Colorado River. We also spent some time at Highline Lake State Park outside of Fruita where the water was lovely. We even took the boat to shore to have lunch on a picnic table that was only accessible by water.
Though we weren't staying at Highline Lake State Park, we definitely wanted to stay there someday. The lake was awesome, and the campground was green and had lots of tall shade trees. It would be a great place to camp in western Colorado. Lacey loves being on the boat no matter where we are.
A trip to the western slope wouldn't be complete without a trip to the tasting patio at Colterris Winery in Palisade. We went with Heather and Mike, and it was a lovely afternoon.
On our last day in Fruita we took a trip up to the Colorado National Monument. The scenery there is jaw dropping, and we wished we had more time. All we had was a quick afternoon, but we made the most of it.
We had a fantastic time in Fruita, and we were sad to leave. But we had an Idaho vacation planned, so we headed west to Salt Lake City to start our big drive to the big skies.
