Henrys Lake State Park

Henrys Lake State Park

July 12th, 2021

We were wrapping up our extended stay with friends in Island Park, Idaho, and we had one more place to visit. Henrys Lake State Park was very close to where we were, just north of us. We took the boat up for the day. There was someone manning the gate and he had treats for Lacey and Mollie, so the day was starting out well for everyone.

Though we weren't staying at the park, we checked out the campsites a bit for future reference. The park is really nice, and we'd definitely stay there. There weren't many trees compared to other locations nearby, but it was still really pretty. The views were fantastic.

We had the lake to ourselves, again. We were starting to wonder if everyone was on Island Park Reservoir and no one ever left it. We put the boat in and we were soon on our way. We took a 360-degree video of our trip, too. It's long, almost two hours, but it's a good one. We cruised by some nice homes on the shore, beached the boat so the dogs could run around, and went down a narrow section to the end. Click and drag with your mouse or move your cell phone to look around.

While we were cruising along the shore and checking out the big houses, we didn't even notice the plume of smoke in the air (see the above video). We didn't notice it until the boat was already out of the water and we were putting the cover on it. It was the Goose Fire over by Wade Lake, a beautiful place where we had kayaked just a few days before. It was a bummer.

We were lucky to see a pair of Trumpeter Swans and their babies on the water, too, which was really special. We crept by them and took lots of pictures. Henrys Lake was really cool, and we're definitely going back there whenever we can. It was a great find for us.
