Pueblo and Pikes Peak

Pueblo and Pikes Peak

September 16-24, 2022

We were finally getting out of Denver and heading south for the winter, and our first stop was in Pueblo. We had other plans originally, but our stay at Transwest to get work done on the motor home ended up taking longer than expected. We made the best of it, even though that meant we had two sites during our stay at Lake Pueblo State Park.

Our first and best site at the top of the hill

The park was pretty empty most of the time, and we had a relaxing time with good views of the lake. Our second site gave us lots of troubles getting level (we usually don't have any issues at all), and Margot stepped out of the motor home after one attempt and wiped out, not realizing it was a huge step down into a hole. Luckily, she didn't break anything.

The lake was lovely, and we took our longest 360-degree video yet (the video below clocks in at three hours and twenty minutes!). It was nice to zoom around for a bit and then enjoy the coves.

We tried to do the Pikes Peak Cog Railway before, but our train was canceled at the last minute. We purchased replacement tickets and drove up from Pueblo to Colorado Springs to take the trip. It was amazing! First, the train goes up at a crazy-steep angle because the cogs allow it to be temporarily attached to the tracks as it goes. Second, it goes to the top of Pikes Peak where the views are incredible. We hung out at the very nice visitor center, bought some "world famous" donuts that weren't very good, and bought lots of stuff. It was a great trip, and it was even fun on the way down.

We really enjoyed everything about our stay in Pueblo, but we were preoccupied. We had an event to pull off at Lathrop State Park, our next stay. We actually met through RVing Women many years ago, and we were going to bring the ladies together for some adventures while we were there. It was a lot to plan, but we were really looking forward to it.
