April 10-22, 2022
We are both from the Denver area, and we lived there for many years before we headed off to live full-time in our motor home. To pull into Cherry Creek State Park was to come back home to a place we'd both stayed at many times over the years, with familiar mountain views. We managed to snag a spot for the full two weeks you're allowed to stay at a single park, and we'd share some of that time with Mike and Heather, which was a great bonus. It would be good to see friends again.
Our site was lovely, with lots of grass for Lacey to run around in. We set up the cabana, and we knew we'd use it.
We were welcomed by Allie, and we were happy to have her stay with us for a few days. It was like one, big homecoming. It was also Allie's birthday, so we were able to celebrate that with her and friends. Happy birthday!
Lacey alerted us to some deer on one of our first days, and she always made sure to let us know when friends, other dogs, and people were around.
We got together with a lot of friends -- we missed our people after spending the whole winter apart.
As our friends know, we have a boat we like to take from lake to lake just to hang out and enjoy the water. We aren't too picky. So, we went out on Cherry Creek Reservoir with Heather and Mike. It's probably the last time we'll bother.
It's a relatively small lake, and we couldn't get very near any of the shores without hitting mud. So, we ended up in the center where it was a whopping 22 feet deep.
Our 360-degree camera recorded for a while before it froze without sound, so we missed the first part of the lake. But we caught enough, including what we found when we got back to the boat ramp. A large boat was put in the water without its boat plug, so it immediately and quickly took on water. Luckily, they were able to quickly get it back onto the trailer but at a wonky angle. They let it drain for a little bit before righting it by putting the plug in and putting it back in the water. We left the camera on long enough to watch the drama.
Even with only a small lake to boat in, it was great to be back. We'd see a couple more state parks in the Denver area before we'd head to the midwest, so we were just getting started. We love you, Denver!
