June 3rd through 10th, 2023
Our main reason for going through the Midwest was to visit Leah, Angelo, Zach, and Alex in Indianapolis. We were coming from Carlyle, Illinois and we stopped at the George Rogers Clark National Historic Site along the way. One of the best things about traveling so much and so slowly is that we get to learn a lot about our country. Neither of us had ever heard of George Rogers Clark, and he was a pretty influential person. The memorial was also really impressive, and we enjoyed our stop (even though we had to get creative with our parking because this park has no RV spots).
We stayed at the KOA in the Indianapolis suburbs, which was actually really nice (and pretty expensive). It was next door to Mount Comfort RV where Chris Anderson was actually working. Chris has been our source of good information (and Newmar information, specifically) for many years. Unfortunately, we were never near enough to Indiana to buy from him, but we made sure to watch his review of the 2023 Newmar Dutch Star 4325 before we bought ours. We were both overly excited to meet him, and it was really fun to hang out, look at some Newmar coaches, and talk about RVing.
We were about a half hour from the Peruch's house, so we headed over there the day after we arrived. It was so exciting to see everyone again, and the boys aren't exactly boys anymore! They drove us around Indianapolis so we could take in the sights (so many statues!), and we had a great dinner. We spent quite a few days hanging out, which was fantastic.
What would a trip to Indianapolis be without going to the Motor Speedway? We spent a day there, going on a tour and wandering through the museum. There were lots and lots of cars, most of them Indianapolis 500 winners. Angelo's company actually sponsored a car once, and he had some cool stories to share. We got to see some cars doing some testing and training, and they are definitely zippy.
We would definitely stay at that KOA again, and we're looking forward to hanging out with the whole family more often. It had been a long time. Hopefully Leah and Angelo come to stay with us sometime!
