November 1-19, 2021
We found it tough to sleep the night before we left Colorado and headed south. It was our first trip as snowbirds, leaving the state where we'd both spent so many winters. We got out at the end of October, spent a night in Raton, New Mexico, and then finally ended up in Elephant Butte, New Mexico for three weeks. Elephant Butte is a town outside of Truth or Consequences, an oasis in the desert.
We stayed at the Elephant Butte Lake RV Resort, a short distance from the lake as well as from Truth or Consequences. It was a fantastic place to stay, and we'd definitely stay there again. There was a dog run that was dirt, though it was right next to us. A better area was thick, green grass (weird in that part of New Mexico) where Lacey had a great time playing with her ball.
When the weekend hit, we finally got the boat out on the reservoir. It felt like we were finally full-timers, enjoying more of the summer weather. We put together a 360-degree video, and the scenery was beautiful. We even saw a coyote on the shore.
Monica was working while we were there, so Margot took a day to go kayak around the lake on her own. It was a great way to see the lake, and another fantastic 360-degree video.
We also enjoyed a lot of the restaurants in both of the small towns, and just loved the "vibe" of the area. Even the people who were staying at the RV park were happy and friendly, and we enjoyed visiting. When the three weeks were up and we headed off to a night in Lordsburg, New Mexico on our way to Arizona, we really didn't want to leave. We'll definitely be back.
Monica's mom and her friend Janet even came to see us and spend a night when they were passing through, which was really cool. We were loving life!
