Thanksgiving in Las Vegas

Thanksgiving in Las Vegas

November 23-24, 2022

One of the best things about traveling is spending holidays in all different places. This Thanksgiving we were in the Las Vegas, Nevada area, staying in Boulder City. We made reservations at Oscar's Steakhouse in The Plaza downtown, at the end of the Fremont Experience. For those in the know, it's the tall hotel with the glass, elevated restaurant on the front.

But first, we wanted to ride our bikes soon after we got to Boulder City. There is a special trail there at the Hoover Dam that they used to run trains to the dam as they were building it. The parts they were carrying were huge, so the tunnels are huge. They removed the tracks and now it is a very cool hiking and biking trail. Our campground was next to another trail that connected to the Railroad Tunnel Trail, so it was an easy trip to the dam and back. Too cool!

We also put our GoPro on the front of one of our Juiced Bikes e-bikes so we could record the action.

Thanksgiving finally arrived, and we headed out to The Strip first to do some touristy stuff. We parked at the Venetian (for free!) and went into the hotel for an awesome lunch. There are canals and gondolas in that casino, and we were thinking of taking a ride, but it was crazy expensive. We skipped it.

We headed out onto the front sidewalks and put in over four miles on pavement, and we saw a ton. It was Margot's first time doing that trek, and we both had a blast. We visited quite a few of the big casinos, and watched a whole water show from the front of the Bellagio. It was great, and we were exhausted by the time we got back to the car.

We drove to our downtown destination and parked for free again because we had dinner reservations. That gave us time to walk around the Fremont Experience. They have a few blocks closed to vehicles, and there is a big cover over the top with LED lights all the way down. It's a non-stop show, and very cool.

We'd managed to escape all of the showgirls and other people trying to pull us in to sell us stuff, but the Chippendale's guys on Fremont Street managed to pull us in. We took the dumbest picture with them and actually paid money for it. I guess we aren't as resistant to it all as we thought we were.

Then it was time for dinner. The food was only so-so, but it was a special menu for Thanksgiving. We'd try it again when they had their usual food. But the view was amazing. We sat at the windows and watched the Fremont Street action, next to the rocking Golden Gate sign. It was a very memorable dinner and visit to the city.

We made it back home and practically fell over with all of the slow walking around we did all day. But it was worth it! It was a blast.
