November 21st through December 13th, 2021
Our snowbirding goal for the end of 2021 and start of 2022 was Tucson. Monica's dad lives there, and the weather is nice for most of the winter months. After a few weeks in New Mexico, we found our way to the Rincon Country West RV Resort for seven straight weeks. A stay that long is turning out to be rare for us. We found so much to do that the Tucson trip is broken into three parts. This is Part 1, and you can also read Part 2 and Part 3!
The resort is huge, and we were at the back corner of it. We had lots of room, and we all loved it, though it was like being a part of a little town. They even had a huge miniature (?!) train area where hobbyists did their thing.
One of the best parts of the park was the dog agility area. Lacey tried it five times with a leash on, and then did it perfectly without a leash on the first try! After that, she was too distracted to make it all the way through. Good dog!
A stay in Tucson would be incomplete without a side trip to Tombstone and Bisbee. We started at Tombstone, and didn't realize there would be a loud-as-life gun show near the OK Corral, in the middle of the street. Lacey had the scare of her life, and she seems to be still jumpy from it. We took her back to the car, had dinner, and then headed to Bisbee. We didn't get out of the car in Bisbee, but still had a great time driving around the narrow, steep streets. We also went through our first border patrol stop.
By far, our favorite part of Tucson is the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum. Linda used to be a docent there, and she taught us a lot about the museum. It's partly a museum, partly a zoo, and partly a hiking trail. If we had the time, we would have gone all the time just to walk through it. We plan on staying closer to it next time so we can visit often.
In December, we left Lacey with a fun sitter in a house full of dogs to fly back to Denver for the weekend for Miriam's and Brett's wedding. They actually got married in 2020, but couldn't have a ceremony then because of the coronavirus. So, they had it in 2021. It was great to see friends again and see how happy they were. It was also awesome to see Ren and Robin. Naturally, there were multiple crying babies on the plane because they gravitate to Monica at every opportunity.
We still had more to see and do before leaving Tucson, and you'll find that in Part 2 and Part 3. Tucson is awesome!
