July 26th through August 2nd, 2023
We were still in Iowa at mom's house, and the plan was to spend some time in Wisconsin. We were taking the motor home up to Waupaca to our annual family reunion. Mom would be staying with us, and we'd be driving her car (instead of taking the trailer) while ours was in the body shop for some ding removals.
It was a bit of a drive, but it was gorgeous. We stayed at an RV park in the middle of farmland, on a big, grassy field. The cell service was even okay, and it was so cool to get out there in the country. It was never too humid, it was never too hot (it was even chilly at times), and it was never buggy. We couldn't ask for better.
We were near the Chain o' Lakes, but we didn't have the boat with us. Instead, we went on a tour boat. We couldn't hear the tour operator over the engine, but we still had a great time seeing many of the lakes. The weather was perfect.
The family reunion was a blast! It was at a park in Weyauwega, and we had great weather again. We had dinner one night with the family, and then saw nearly everyone again at the park. It was so fun catching up. Monica hadn't seen anyone from mom's side of the family in Wisconsin since she was in high school. It was so fun to reconnect.
We only stayed there for a few days before heading back. We only had another week in Iowa, and we just spent time with mom as much as we could. Margot got an early birthday present, a pressure washer we could have with us all the time (getting the coach and trailer washed isn't exactly cheap). And we went to see Monica's cousin Ron and his wife Tammy at their house on the river. They have a screened-in room, and it was crazy to think that it was almost completely under water when the river overflowed its banks when we were in Iowa earlier in the summer. What a mess that must have been to clean up!
All good things must come to an end, so we eventually left Iowa and headed west. We'd spend the next month in Nebraska. Off to new adventures!
