Cape Fear and Sebastian Maniscalco

Cape Fear and Sebastian Maniscalco

July 8th through 17th, 2024

We spent a couple weeks in the Cape Fear and Wilmington area of North Carolina, near Bolivia. It was a rural spot in the pine trees, and it was nice to get away from crowds for a change. Our first site looked too unlevel for us upon first glance, but we didn't trust our instincts. We tried leveling over and over, moving the coach around a few times, but nothing worked. Margot had already set everything up outside, and then we decided to move to a different spot. We broke everything down, packed up, and moved across the campground, setting it all up again in about 20 minutes, round trip. We've had some practice!

We have a canopy out almost all the time, and the wind has roughed it up a bit over the last year. In Savannah, it got a bit rougher from a big wind gust. This time, it blew off of our site and into the trees where the fabric was trashed. We ordered another one (we really like that specific gazebo), and figured it's the price we pay for a lovely spot of shade everywhere we go.

Though we'd have that site reserved for two weeks, we had a side trip to Raleigh on our schedule. We left the trailer and most of our stuff in Bolivia and took the coach and car to Raleigh to see Sebastian Maniscalco at the PNC Arena. We stayed at the fairgrounds (it's a great place to stay!), had some great Mediterranean food, and saw a fabulously funny show. So fun!

On the way back to Bolivia we stopped at Moores Creek National Battlefield. Everyone there was so friendly and helpful, and we had a really nice time. There was a gorgeous walking path through the grounds and to the famous bridge, passing statues and markers along the way. It was pretty hot and humid, but it was shady. Lacey loves it when we get to go for walks in new areas.

We're always looking for new and interesting things to do wherever we are, and we were onboard (literally) right away when we learned about a car ferry nearby. We drove to Southport on the shore and got on the ferry from there to Fort Fisher. It was a gorgeous tour of the Cape Fear River, and Carolina Beach was a pretty cool beach town. There were lots of people there on the beach and boardwalk.

It rained a lot when we were in Bolivia, so we had a few days spent largely indoors. We didn't mind, though -- it was nice to slow down a bit and just relax. We even watched the Cape Fear movie and got properly freaked out, which was fun. Lacey really liked the site and the campground, too. We'd definitely stay in this area again.
